BLT

It just doesn't get any better than this.

Bacon - Local cottage bacon from Willow Creek Farm. It's cured just like regular bacon, but the meat is from the shoulder of the hog instead of the belly. It's a little leaner and in a circular shape instead of strips.

Lettuce - Fresh from the garden. Our spring planting is done - this was planted in the cool shade of the peach trees in June, and is just starting to really come on.

Tomato - Ox Heart. These are the first of my heirlooms to ripen. They're dense and meaty with a deep dark rich red tangy fruity flavor. Wow. I'm going to have to come up with my own flavor language just to describe tastes like this.

Wow indeed. Bacon lettuce & tomato with a dab of mayo on Scali bread from The Batch. Paired with a simple salad of homegrown cucumbers, sungolds, and basil tossed with a little olive oil and salt. The perfect meal on a perfect summer day. I wish you could have been there.
